Summer is just around the corner and for a lot of people that means some sort of vacation time…visiting relatives and friends, going to the cabin or cottage, taking a road trip in your RV, camping at your favorite campground…
No matter how you slice it, summer’s just a great time to be out and about!
Because your dog is a member of your family it’s wonderful to be able to take them with you wherever you go. And a portable wireless dog fence can be the ideal aid when it comes to traveling with your pet and keeping them safe no matter where you are.
We all love our furry friends and the last thing we want is for them to end up lost or injured, especially when it can be prevented. And that’s exactly what a wireless fence can do for your dog…keep them safely contained and out of harm’s way no matter where they are.
Just throw your fence into the car and you can have it up and running in less than an hour no matter where your travels take you. No wonder so many people love wireless fences!
Before we go on let’s take a minute to explain how a wireless dog fence works using the following diagram.
Your transmitter emits a radio signal that creates a circular boundary around your pet’s containment area. This signal is picked up by the receiver collar and as long as your dog stays within the Safe Zone they’re free to run around as much as they want.
But if they get too close to the Correction Zone their collar will beep, warning them not to go any further. If they ignore the warning the metal contact points will deliver a mild static correction which won’t hurt them but is designed to make them return to the Safe Zone of the yard.
The diameter of your Safe Zone is determined by your transmitter and is adjustable from a few feet up to a few acres, depending on which fence you buy.
With proper training your dog will learn the new boundaries quickly and easily.
Now that you know a bit about how a wireless fence works, let’s get into just how simple it is to take it with you wherever you go…
All you need is your transmitter, a power source and your dog’s receiver collar. And once you’ve arrived at your destination, getting your fence up and running is as easy as 1 2 3:
- Power up your transmitter.
- Set the size of your dog’s containment area.
- Familiarize your canine buddy to their new boundaries.
Going someplace where you won’t have access to an standard wall outlet? By using a Power Inverter, you can convert the kind of power used by your vehicle into the type of power you’ll need to run your transmitter. Your vehicle will quickly become a reliable power source for your wireless fence — problem solved.
More than one dog? Not a problem — most systems can handle an unlimited number of dogs. You can find wireless fences for any size and temperament of dog; they can cover small areas and large areas. Whatever your needs — there’s a wireless fence that will fit the bill!
But like anything, they have their limitations and wireless fences aren’t right for every dog and every situation. If you have an aggressive, anxious or very sensitive dog, a wireless fence might do them more harm than good. Or if your four legged friend is pregnant, sick or elderly it’s a good idea to check with your vet before using a wireless system on them.
And even if your dog doesn’t fall into one of those categories, you can’t just throw your wireless system in the car and use it on them at a moment’s notice. You’ll have to do a bit of pre-planning because the most important aspect of any wireless fence is training your dog and that takes a bit of time and effort.
But the training process isn’t hard and if you can spare 10-15 minutes a few times a day you can have your furry friend completely trained within 2-3 weeks. And that means they’ll know what to do whether they’re at home or in the yard at grandma’s house or at your favorite spot at the campground.

So if you want to take your dog with you this summer — or anytime you travel — consider a wireless fence. A bit of preparation will give you the peace of mind that comes from knowing that they’re safe and secure.
And look at it from your dog’s point of view…Which do you think they’d like more — having complete freedom to run around and play within whatever preset boundary you’ve given them or being tied up? After all, it’s their vacation too! 😉
